On Feb. 5th, 2011, Sally Ludwig and Natalie Zend presented a deeply meaningful and engaging workshop “Emotional Intelligence in Challenging Times" based on Joanna Macy's "The Work That Reconnects".

It was held at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph, ON on a beautiful snowy day around a warm fire. $75.00 plus HST for the day. It was offered as a preparation for those interested in applying for Joanna Macy's training in "The Work that Reconnects" to be held in Guelph May 12-22, 2011.

Feb. 11th-13, 2011, Muriel McMahon and Casandra Akins led a soulful and creative workshop “Exploring Dreams and Archetypal Images using the SoulCollage® Process".

Through teaching, ceremony and engaging participation the group discovered a longing to continue this enlightening process of self discovery.

It was held at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph, ON on another beautiful snowy day around a warm fire. $250.00 incl HST for the weekend.

On Mar. 12, 2011, Sr. Anne Kathleen McLaughlin presented an enriching and powerful presentation  on “Julian of Norwich and the Mystic  Life” with a talk in the morning and a brilliant one woman play of  Julian of Norwich in the afternoon. The organizers shared a delightful conversation and dinner with Anne Kathleen following the event with encouragement for a return visit. The talk was held the chapel and  the play at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph around a warm fire. $50.00 for the day. It was supported by Sacred Wisdom Centre and sponsored by the Guelph Seminar and The Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

For six Mondays in Feb. and Mar. 2011, John Lawson and Barbara Susan Booth co-facilitated “Conversations on Compassion” based on Karen Armstrong’s book “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life”.

An average of twelve people a night shared their heart-felt views and explored the topic from a wide range of interesting perspectives.  

We already miss the community and want to do more of this kind of sharing. The conversations were held at the welcoming Bookshelf  E-Bar in a comfortable circle with a glass of wine.  

The cost was $30.00 to $60.00 for six sessions depending on whether participants were waged or not.  It was offered by Sacred Wisdom Centre and Rising Spirit.

Monday to Friday April 4th - 8th 2011, Lauren Artress and Mary Hamilton led an exceptional intensive “Embodying Wisdom: The Spirituality of the Labyrinth.” They were assisted by Barbara Susan Booth. The work blended seamlessly the famous labyrinth work of Lauren with the equally famous BodySoul Rhythms work of Mary (co-developed with Marion Woodman and Ann Skinner).

Their deepening wisdom blossomed from their recent teaching together at Chartres Cathedral in France and also in California. The cost was $650.00 for the week and the intensive was held at Loyola House a rich and welcoming container for the work of soul.  

It was offered by Veriditas, Sacred Wisdom Centre and given course credit by Wisdom University.

It was also advertised as an affiliated program of the Marion Woodman Foundation.

Tuesday May 10th, David Darling led a playful and  enriching workshop “Music for People” in the sanctuary of Harcourt United Church 9am to 4pm. Eighteen musicians from the Guelph and Toronto area created musical improvisations and learned to loosen old restrictions to play from a place of soul. They wanted David to return on a monthly basis!

Music for People” is dedicated to re-vitalizing music-making and promoting music as a means of self-expression. Founded by cellist David Darling and flautist Bonnie Insull in 1986 as a non-profit organization, it seeks to promote a humanistic approach to the way music is taught, performed, and appreciated. The cost was $85.00 per participant including HST.

On May 10, 2011, 7:30-9:30   David Darling presented a Solo Cello and Voice Concert at Harcourt United Church with invited Canadian guest musicians Debbie Danbrook and Brenda McMorrow. Their collaboration sparkled. Some of the “Music for People” participants from the day long workshop joined David on stage for a beautiful spontaneous piece of improvised fun. David’s generosity and talent captured the group and left a lasting and rewarding impression with his Guelph audience. The concert was $20.00 including HST.

On May 11th 2011, Joanna Macy and David Darling presented an awe-inspiring, musically accompanied poetry experience.

On a silent evening at the dawn of spring in Guelph, Joanna’s passionate reading of her own Rilke translations was celebrated with David’s magnificently sensitive cello. 

For over an hour the audience was spellbound as Joanna’s and David’s creative gifts reached the sacred in each of us. Joanna signed her latest book of Rilke translations “A Year with Rilke” co-authored with Anita Barrows following the performance. We are grateful to the Bookshelf for their support and to Harcourt United Church for the fine acoustics and lovely setting. The event was audiotaped by Chris Mills and videotaped by Melissa Glidden. The concert was $20.00 including HST.

Thursday to a week Sunday May 12th - 22th 2011, Joanna Macy and Anne Symens-Bucher led an exceptional 10-day intensive “Theory and Practice of the Work That Reconnects.

They were assisted by a supporting team of point people from the home groups Sally Ludwig, Chris Mills, Natalie Zend, Laurie Hollis-Walker and Barbara Susan Booth.

Joanna’s profound work led 27 participants from all over the world into her seasoned exercises and teachings to open our hearts and minds to the reality of our Earth’s challenges and our own.

The gift of truth telling, authentically feeling, appreciating the ancestors and future beings in the support of community allowed for a deeper experience of our own unique and shared wisdom contributing to a shift in consciousness and action for compassion and sustainability.

The intensive was held at Loyola House, a ‘place of peace’. The training tuition was $1,200.

On June 7, 2011, Karen Kurtz , Jungian analyst, presented a creative, informed and engaging presentation  “Tracking the Ox: Eastern Wisdom for Our Western Path”.  She explained that Zen monasteries, as early as 900 C.E., were using the Ten Oxherding Pictures as a teaching metaphor for the process of awakening the Buddha nature, which lies within every person. Using the imagery of 13th century Ten Oxherding Pictures, Karen applied their Eastern wisdom to the Western path of individuation described by C. G. Jung. 

The talk was held at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph for a fee $15.00. It was sponsored by Sacred Wisdom Centre and supported by the Guelph Seminar and the Ignatius Jesuit Centre. Karen generously donated her proceeds to continuing the work of Sacred Wisdom Centre.

On Friday and Saturday, July 8th and 9th, 2011, Alexandra Kovats csjp PhD engaged an appreciative group of participants in a talk and unique prayshop “Dancing with the Cosmos: Prayer and the New Cosmology”.

She introduced participation in story, chant, music and body prayer to explore the implications of prayer informed by the emerging Universe Story.  Currently Alexandra teaches in the field of Spirituality at Seattle University and is E.D. and founder of GreenHearth Collective, a non-profit organization focusing on urban ecology and eco-spirituality. We met at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph.

$20.00 was the fee for the talk and $125.00 for the talk and day long workshop.

The event was sponsored by Sacred Wisdom Centre and the Ignatius Jesuit Centre and supported by the Guelph Seminar.

From August 26th to 28th a series of fundraising events on “The Sacredness of Water” was hosted in Guelph by Muriel McMahon and supported by Sacred Wisdom Centre. Mandaza Augustine Kandemwa (a Traditional African Healer from Zimbabwe) gave talks, signed books and created a healing ceremony and “Dare” to invite local talent and engagement in the protection and healing of water, our sacred resource.

His message was to heal our own hearts so that our actions and could be useful to healing our planet.

All fundraising donations and the work to produce the events were offered as gifts to Mandaza’s work with orphans in Africa.

Thursday  September 8th, Philip Shepherd, with the encouraging support of Andrew Harvey introduced his new book “New Self :New World: Recovering Our Senses in the Twenty-First Centuryin a captivating “Dinner and Dialogue” at Loyola House, Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph.

Following a delicious buffet from the acclaimed Loyola House chef, 55 participants enthusiastically applauded Philip’s inspiration  to live consciously in our bodies, engaging and integrating both the feminine and masculine perspectives of our psyches.

The cost was $35.00 per guest including HST.

On Sept. 9th-11th, 2011, Andrew Harvey and Karuna Erickson led a deeply moving and transformative workshop “Heart Yoga & Sacred Activism" to engage our bodies, minds and souls in the field of the archetypal mother and the Sacred Marriage of body and spirit (immanent and transcendent realities). They invited us into the awareness that “Heart Yoga marries at the most passionate depth the ancient traditions of yoga with the wisdom of the mystical traditions concerning the sacred heart and the divine light. Their intention is to inspire [us] to become the crucible for the divinization of the body and the birth of the divine human”.

With yoga postures encouraged with Karuna’s unprecedented tenderness and Andrew’s informed mystical wisdom,  we entered into experiences to honour nature, our own hearts and Divine Wisdom at a level most of us will never forget. The workshop was held at St. Brigid's Villa, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph, ON on a beautiful warm summery weekend with a full moon. $296.00 including HST for the weekend.

Thuesday, October 4th, Mary Evelyn Tucker introduced the new 2011 documentary “Journey of the Universe” which she recently made with Brian Swimme. Her informed and gracious talk inspired over 100 people.  

Her presence also touched the hearts of our community when she honoured Jim Profit’s exemplary eco-spiritual contribution to the environment.

Sacred Wisdom Centre, The Guelph Seminar and The Elderberry Connection supported this event created by Ignatius Jesuit Centre. It was held at Harcourt United Church for a cost of $15.00 admission. Mary Evelyn Tucker donated her honorarium from this  event to Ignatius Jesuit Centre’s Plant an Old Growth Forest project.

On Thurdsay Oct. 6, 2011, Patty de Llosa, presented her new book Taming Your Inner Tyrant: A Path to Healing Through Dialogues with Oneself” to a fascinated audience of 18 people at St. Brigid’s Villa.

Patty’s book brought to life her own personal experience of taming her inner destructive voices using Jung’s active imagination and Gurdjieff’s exercises.

Patty is a contributing editor to Parabola Magazine and a former editor of Fortune magazine where her masculine skills were needed to find success in the business world.

Benefitting from her work with Marion Woodman she is now as at home with the feminine skills needed to thrive personally. Admission to the event was $15.00.

On Saturday Nov. 12, 2011, Barbara Susan Booth, presented a day long workshop “SoulCollage® Introduction”. Twelve engaged participants learned the basis of Seena Frost’s philosophy and techniques to bring their own wisdom creatively to consciousness in making their own cards.  Barbara trained in SoulCollage® Facilitation with Seena Frost in California in June 2011 and is hosting Seena to teach a Facilitator’s Training in Guelph in September 2012.

The Bookshelf supported the event by having Seena’s  latest book “SoulCollage® Evolving” available for participants to purchase. The workshop was held at Norfolk Street United Church, Guelph at a cost or $84.75 including HST and supplies.

Monday evenings in October and November, John Lawson  and Barbara Susan Booth facilitated “Conversations on Wisdom” as 14 participants studied and discussed Cynthia Bourgeault’s book “The Wisdom Way of Knowing”. 

Deeply meaningful spiritual conversations developed with the shared trust, open dialogue and experiential practices encouraged by Cynthia in her exceptional book.  

We remain grateful for the generous gift of the Bookshelf’s venue at the E-Bar for our meetings and we are planning a series in the new year with Cynthia’s next book “Wisdom Jesus”.  

Admission varied from $30- $90 for the six week series.
